During last week, I received over 50 messages with the subject “CONGRATULATIONS! YOU HAVE WON 4 MILLION DOLLARS!”…:)
If only it were true! We’ve all suffered (yes, suffered) this kind of emails, whether they say we’ve won a gazillion dollars or that there’s a miracle product that will enhance our love experience.
The worst part of this is that sometimes it’s not always easy to tell spam from real emails (at least not without wasting time reading into the email) and email security software are having a hard time keeping up. Spammers are constantly improving their methods and learning new ways of tricking spam filters and get to a users’ inbox.
Even worse, spammers are also trying to trick us into giving our account information away (from email accounts to bank accounts) and are getting cleverer by the minute. They mount fake sites that look exactly like the real site and if someone falls for it, will find himself without being able to access his account or worse, finding out that his bank account has been emptied.
After these examples, it seems that we’re pretty much defenseless against spammers. But there’s hope. While trying to find some help against all the spam jamming up my email server, I found an anti spam blog called AllSpammedUP.com.
This website features business anti spam solutions and techniques for fighting this irritating (and potentially dangerous) pest. The blog’s posts discuss many different spam-related subjects, including DNS hijacking, legal issues related to spam, phishing. In short, this blog contains a lot of articles that any system administrator will find useful.
