If you’re someone who likes to get every imaginable feature a device could offer, you just might fall in love with the Garmin StreetPilot 2820. If you are a motorcyclist who hates reading maps, the 2820 might be for you. If you’re a back seat driver with a direction-clueless driver, the StreetPilot 2820 should be on your gift list.
The display is nice and big. Some people think everything should be small, so they don’t like it so big, but it makes navigation much easier actually. This unit big enough to see even if you normally wear reading glasses. Its screen works just fine even in sunlight as well. You can easily see where you are headed with the 3D navigational directions. The big screen is touchscreen-enabled, so you don’t have to fiddle with buttons. It also has a handy little remote for added functionality.
Right out of the box, the StreetPilot 2820 is hassle-free. It’s already set to go with a fantastic mapping system of the entire North America streets, as well as thousands upon thousands (millions, actually) of points of interest (also called POI’s). These are things like gas stations, hotels, local attractions, restaurants, ATM’s, banks, churches, and the like. You can just pull it out of the box, turn it on, and get going!
It’s got a great feature in its XM radio and MP3 player functions. If you are subscribed to an XM radio provider, you can load up your favorite tunes on the MP3 player and switch between the XM radio and MP3 player for variety or if the terrain ends up blocking the radio signals (i.e. mountain biking). You also might enjoy listening to audiobooks with the 2820’s neat audiobook function. You simply would buy some books off of audible.com and add that to your MP3 collection.
If you are listing to the MP3 or radio, you can set a mode so that if it has directions to tell you it will sound a tone so you can hit the “speak” button. This helps so that you don’t have to hear things you don’t want to hear.
Motorcyclists love the Garmin StreetPilot 2820 over others like Garmin Quest. It’s a whole lot easier to use so if you’re speeding down the highway, you can operate the GPS unit a whole lot safer. The safety that comes from easier handling makes the 2820 worth a whole lot more!
The 2820 also features Bluetooth functionality which enables hands-free calling. You have to have a Bluetooth compatible cell phone, but if you do, you simply hook it up to the GPS unit and use the built-in speaker and microphone on the 2820 to make your calling hands-free. You can also set up both your cell phone and your MP3 player, XM radio, and audio book so that you can make calls, listen to stuff, and hear navigational directions all thru your headset or helmet at the same time!
All in all, people all over the internet are raving about the StreetPilot 2820. Good reason too! This handy GPS has great features and configuration abilities to make it your dream navigational machine!
