Report: Cellphone Forecast Gets Rosier For 2009

After strong second-quarter handset sales were reported by LG (SEO: 066570) and Samsung this week, ABI Research is revising its forecast for the year to a slightly rosier picture. However, the research firm still sees overall shipments falling this year by 7.5 percent to 1.11 billion total phones.

Here’s ABI’s market share figures for Q2:

—Samsung (19.4 percent, up 1.67 percent).
—LG (11.1 percent, up 2.2 percent).
—Nokia (NYSE: NOK) (38.3 percent, up 1.67 percent).
—Sony-Ericsson (NSDQ: ERIC), Motorola (NYSE: MOT) and RIM (NSDQ: RIMM) all saw contractions.
