Non-Profit Will Resell Clearwire’s Service For 10 Bucks A Month

Boulder, Co.-based Mobile Citizen is offering three different mobile broadband plans at $10 a month each to schools and non-profits in Portland and Las Vegas and soon Philadelphia and Chicago using the Clearwire (NSDQ: CLWR) WiMax network.

The five-year-old non-profit was able to arrange the deal with Clearwire because it has access to something very precious and valuable that Clearwire needs—spectrum. The organization was using to transmit educational videos will now be shared with Clearwire under a 30-year deal. In return, it allows Mobile Citizen to resell WiMAX exclusively to schools and nonprofits, according to muniwireless.com.

The $10 plans all offer download speeds up to 6 mbps and upload speeds of up to 500 kbps. In addition, the user will have to purchase a modem. The desktop version costs $99; the USB modem costs $89; and ClearSpot, which allows up to eight people to use the same WiMax modem using wi-fi, costs $129.
